Ask Tom the Tech Tipper: Yo Tom! Why Won’t My Tab Button Change Levels in My Outlines and Lists in Word?

That’s a great question, and I was just about to get to that. I’m a great believer in lists and outlines. Many of my CLNC amigos use the convenient automatic outline and bulleted/numbered list function in Microsoft Word to create reports for their attorney-clients. When you’re creating or editing a list, the handy Tab button allows you to decrease a bullet or drop an outline level (or increase a level if you use Shift-Tab). It’s a fast and furious way to organize your data and your thinking.

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Tabbit Baby, Tabbit!

I’ve long (and long windedly) blogged about the advantages of tabbed web browsing. Well my CLNC® amigos, I’m bringing the joy of tabbed browsing to one of the software tools you use the most – Microsoft® Word. Download and install the free utility Tabs for Word and you will never click on View, Switch Windows to change documents again (plus you can easily see what documents you have open).

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Word 2007 Timesavers and Fun Tips for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

I’ve slowly grown accustomed to Word 2007 and all its petty quirks and timesaving features that don’t save you any time. One of my chief complaints about the latest iteration of Word is that annoying little “Mini Toolbar” that pops up any time you highlight some text. You know the one I mean – it gives you a font choice, size, color, indentation, etc. Any legal nurse consultant will tell you that whenever you highlight text to copy or drag, the Mini Toolbar will absolutely, positively appear right over the very spot you need to grab that text to drag it and drop it.

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help with Microsoft Office 2007 – Just Watch How You Ask!

If you’ve moved to Microsoft Office 2007 with its suite of upgrades, enhancements and head-banging, you’ve probably noticed the so-called “Ribbon.” This replaced all the good, old-fashioned, easy-to-use command buttons in Office 2003. I’ve been using this suite for about 10 months now and still misplace commands and I never remember where the darn “advanced options” can be found. If a techie is flummoxed, what’s a legal nurse consultant to do?
