A Problem is Sometimes More Than Just a Problem

When a problem in your legal nurse consulting business rears its ugly head, what do you do? That’s right, you assess the problem, dissect it and get to work solving it. Recently I was doing just that when I uncovered an even more important problem, one that I had no idea even existed. Without that first problem, the second one could have gone undetected, creating huge amounts of damage before any of us knew about it.

Manage Yourself as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant

“Manage yourself” is the mantra of my trainer Jerome. In the middle of a set of chest presses he’ll say “Vickie, manage yourself.” He’s not asking for much – just for me to engage my core, abs and glutes, pin my shoulder blades to the bench and press with my chest, not my arms. Jerome is an awesome trainer, but whenever I hear those two simple words, one fact is clear: he’s the trainer and I’m the one pushing the barbell off my chest. He can’t contract my glutes for me and he can’t activate my chest muscles. That’s my job.

On the Road Again…

I’m about to hit the road again for the fall season of CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminars. Even though I must confess when I’m at home I enjoy my personal “Tower of Whipped Cream Terror” I find that when I’m at home it’s easier to maintain my healthy habits than when I’m on the road.

Is It Time to Deliver More Sack and Less Yack as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant?

Between mentoring Certified Legal Nurse Consultants and managing 23 employees, the expression “more sack, less yack” resonates with me. A CLNC consultant I have mentored numerous times highlights the importance of knowing when it’s time to stop talking and time to get in motion and start doing. She is full of good intentions and plenty of ideas, but falls short in the execution department.

Tom’s Tech Tips

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Is Your Memory Leaking or Just Your Coffee Cup?

The other day, an Institute staff member came into my office and complained that her computer was running slowly. I asked her if it was slower than normal and she looked at me sort of funny, then said yes. We went back to her desk to assess things. She had her usual 30 programs running with more open windows than a New Orleans nunnery in the summer.

I then asked when she had last turned off her computer.

No Such Thing as Bad Clothing for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

I just got back from four wonderfully luxurious days sitting on a beach in Mexico with nothing more on my mind than my stack of novels. You’d think that for a woman who grew up in New Orleans, in a home that didn’t have air conditioning, I’d only like warm weather places like beaches or jungles. Surprisingly it’s exactly the opposite! Many of my favorite travels have taken me to colder climates.
