Every Certified Legal Nurse Consultant makes decisions – daily, weekly and hourly. When we worked in the hospital setting many decisions involved matters of life and death. You may not think of the decisions you make for your legal nurse consulting business as a matter of life or death, but that’s where you could be wrong.
I was mentoring a CLNC consultant who is working with a new managing partner at one of the law firms she consults with. This law firm is her biggest client and she’s always worked well with the prior managing partner. He trusted her and pretty much gave her free reign in just about everything she did, from budgeting for cases to the work product she produced. From her point of view, it was a perfect relationship.
I’ve been in business for 30 years and think of myself as a CEO who is tuned-in. But occasionally I am reminded that the view from the inside is not always crystal clear. The mind is an amazing instrument, but if you’re not careful, it can lead you astray and into bad decisions. The solution: get as much outside perspective as you can on your CLNC business.
I was in the gym working out with my trainer Jerome this morning, and after finishing my bench press, Jerome exclaimed “We did it!” That cracked me up and I joked “We? I’m the one moving that weight and hey, I don’t see you sweating.” He came right back at me with, “But I was right there with you, Vickie. I’ve got your back so you can concentrate on feeling strong.”
