Business Travel Strategies for the Certified Legal Nurse Consultant on the Go

Discuss Travel Expenses in Advance – If you’re traveling with an attorney-client or at his request as a CLNC consultant you should always discuss your travel expenses (e.g., airfare, meals, hotel and cancellation/change fees) and consulting fees in advance. You don’t want any surprises at billing time that may undermine the trust or good-will you have built up with that attorney.

On the Road Again!

I’m on the road again and I confess I always envy the person who can travel with one rolling carry-on. That’s not me. I’m more like the British explorers who traveled with teapot, table and tent. Unless you’re flying Southwest Airlines where baggage flies free (free of airline meals and assigned seats too), my preferred style of travel is costly and inefficient. If you wish to avoid fees for checked bags, overweight bags and extra bags, I recommend you don’t do what I do. Instead, here are some tips from the experts in six convenient categories that I regularly ignore. Plus a few tips I’ve conjured myself from decades of travel:

A couple of months ago I jumped on an airplane to Las Vegas for the Institute’s CLNC Certification Program. I normally work on flights. I carry my own water, jack my iPod Classic into my Bose sound-reducing headphones and crank up Prince. I’m so self-contained that the only thing that can ruin my flight is when the guy in front of me leans his seat back into my lap so he can sleep.
