Don’t Make Me Repeat Myself – Again!

ICU nurses are good at a lot of things – one of which is giving orders in times of crisis. That ability has helped me feel quite at ease giving directives as the CEO of my legal nurse consulting business. I hire and prefer people who are comfortable with disagreeing with me. I do not like working with, nor does LegalNurse.com benefit from “yes” people. But once a decision is final my staff is also great at not making me repeat myself. Of course no decision is ever final until they’ve all had their say. Then it’s really final.

Is There Such a Thing as Too Much Foreplay for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants?

Everybody loves a little, or a lot of, foreplay – just not when they’re really busy. Attorneys are crazy busy and for them, time is money. That means if you’re a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who can skip some of the foreplay, all the build-up, set-up and sucking up and just get down to business, attorneys will appreciate you all the more.

Get right to the heart of the matter, cut to the chase and give your attorney-clients the facts, your opinions and your recommendations on where to go next. Save the foreplay for the person who will appreciate it most.

Success Is Inside!

P.S. Comment and share how you get down to business with your attorney-clients.

Tom’s Tech Tips

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Are Your Attorney-Clients Giving You a Pain in the Neck? Get a Headset!

If you’re a busy CLNC® consultant you probably spend a lot of time on the phone. It may be your good-old fashioned landline home phone or your cell phone. Either way you probably do the old bent-neck, crooked-head-lean thing where you cradle the phone between your ear and shoulder. While this works (but not with an iPhone®) you’re guaranteeing yourself a trip to the chiropractor – or worse.

Wine and Dine with Your Attorney-Clients

Attorneys love only two things more than winning a big case – the celebratory eating and drinking that comes afterwards. Whether you’re in the early, middle or trial stage of a case, if your attorney-client offers to take you to lunch or dinner, go! It’s a great chance to build a rapport and get to know the attorney better.

Prescription Painkillers – The Next Wave of Litigation?

Statistically, high-strength painkillers are the most widely prescribed class of drugs in the U.S. This is a class of drugs that, just 15 short years ago, was mostly used for post-operative pain and pain associated with cancer. Today they’re widely used to treat just about every type of pain, with chilling consequences. Patients develop tolerance to the opioids, requiring increasingly higher dosages just to maintain the same level of pain control. Use of painkillers can turn into an addiction, with accompanying symptoms of withdrawal should a patient try and taper off.

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Join Me at Join.Me!

There are so many times that it would be handy for a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant to share his or her computer screen with another party who’s not in the room. It’s always easier to discuss a presentation, problem or tech support issue that you both can see, especially when one of you can point to it with your mouse.

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Tabbit Baby and Then Tabbit Some More!

Last week’s post about Tabs for Word was so popular that the overwhelming response nearly crashed the Internet. So today we’ll just wonder how robust Al Gore’s invention really is. With today’s Tech Tip, my CLNC® amigos can add the wonder of tabs to… you guessed it – Microsoft® Excel!  Download and install the free utility Tabs for Excel (make sure you close Word before installing) and changing your spreadsheets will be as easy as changing your mind (plus you can easily see what “books” you have open).

Just as Certified Legal Nurse Consultants shared the Tech Tip love of Tabs for Word with their favorite attorney-clients, now you should share the love of Tabs for Excel. Just remember, you heard it here first (again)!

Keep on Techin’,

Tom

P.S. Comment and tell me when you’ve installed Tabs for Word.

OMG, I’m LMAO Over that #EPICFAIL!

I’m finally learning to accept the fact that Twitter-speak, text-speak and social media language conventions are invading just about every part of our lives. We see Twitter #hashtags displayed during TV commercials, people LMAO over the fact that we can all haz cheezburgers and a great convo with a girlfriend isn’t over dinner but instead by a rapid flurry of texting while watching the Academy Awards.

Get Whacked Like a Buddhist

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite excerpts from my book Wicked Success Is Inside Every Woman. Every time I read this excerpt I laugh and am instantly transported back to Kyoto.
