31 years ago, when I dreamed of starting my own legal nurse consulting business, the dream in and of itself was exciting. But a dream can be nothing more than vapor and can even make us miserable if we are not acting on the dream. While a dream is the genesis of any undertaking, mindfulness in executing the dream is the stuff of what real CLNC success is made of.
Here we are, it’s February 20th and you’d like to say that 2013 is looking to be a banner year. That you made the career change you’ve been dreaming about. That you took a leap of faith and finally launched or expanded your legal nurse consulting business. If 2013 is starting to look like the same old disappointments as 2012, don’t despair, 2013 can really be your year.
One of the 5 Promises I made when I started my legal nurse consulting business was to take action every day. But when I talk about taking action every day, I’m not taking about buying office supplies or creating the perfect office. While those are certainly laudable actions – they’re not moving your CLNC business forward.
The most common question I get is “Vickie, what’s the first thing I need to do after I’ve passed my CLNC Certification Exam?” When they ask, I know they’re looking for that magical laundry list for becoming a successful CLNC consultant.
I’ve been training and mentoring nurses to start legal nurse consulting businesses for more than 29 years. In all that time, I’ve never met a successful CLNC® consultant who said “I wish I had waited to start my CLNC® business.” What I always hear Certified Legal Nurse Consultants say is “I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner.”
