Contrary to the Experts – The Experts Aren’t Always Right

My success, like that of many entrepreneurs, is built on challenging the experts – not relying on them. Our Founding Fathers weren’t expert politicians. Our captains of industry weren’t experts in their fields. Our best inventors weren’t experts. America and almost all of our achievements were built by a nation of amateurs, tinkerers and inventors constantly poking, prodding, testing and discarding what didn’t work until they eventually hit the magic formula for success.

Success Strengths for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants: Fire

One thing I know about nurses is that you didn’t get into nursing for the big bucks, the big raises or the big perks (like the cafeteria food, going four hours without a restroom break or the five-minute lunch hour). To do everything that nurses do every day, you have to be wired by passion, by a fire that drives you to make a difference in the lives you hold in your hands. Nurses have the strength of fire and passion. But are you as fired up about nursing today as when you first started? If not, what are you fired up about?

Get Out of Your Head and Into the Legal Nurse Consulting Market!

The other day I was reading an article that asked whether we spent too much time in our heads. The author took the position that by over-rationalizing we actually talk ourselves out of things we really want and into things that we don’t. This reminded me of a story told by one of the Certified Legal Nurse Consultants about how much time and effort he spent setting up his CLNC business, creating the perfect logo, the perfect home office and the perfect conditions for getting started. He was convinced that until he was perfectly ready he wouldn’t have a perfect chance, so he found himself accomplishing nothing more than moving the tchlotskis around on his desk to the perfect position. He knew in his heart he was ready but that wasn’t enough – because his head wasn’t ready.

What Legal Nurse Consulting T-Shirt Are You Wearing?

Tom has a T-shirt he picked up in Fiji a couple of years ago while on his quest to dive with hammerhead sharks. It says, “You can run out of air and die. You can get bitten by a shark and die or you can fall off the couch and die. Get off the couch and into the water!”

Veteran’s Day Thoughts

My father, Sal Milazzo, is a veteran. The Army took a skinny 106-pound young man from New Orleans and an Italian mess hall cook fattened him up to 125 pounds. When Sal wasn’t peeling potatoes on KP, he learned to box (that’s the black-eye in the photo). The army sent dad to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for winter training and then trained him to fight an enemy hidden in snow. Using Army logic they sent him to the Pacific to fight the Japanese in places like Angaur and Peleliu during World War II. Dad’s younger brother, Frank, is an Army veteran too. He fought in the Korean War (for some reason politely called a police action).

Are You Copping Out as a Legal Nurse Consultant?

Once a year I drag Tom to a health spa in the desert for a week (he calls it the “bunny ranch” because of the predominance of salads, veggies and other healthy “rabbit” food on the menu). The spa I like has a great medical department along with its other amenities (massage, yoga, hiking, etc.). I go to get a medical check-up, nutritional evaluations and a fitness assessment with the goal of reigniting my commitment to wellness.

The Best Gift I’ve Ever Received (Well, Almost)!

I like to joke with Tom that, Sometimes I sit and think, and sometimes I just sit. Right now I’ve just finished sitting at my desk, not thinking but gazing at a gift that my nephews gave to me for Christmas a couple of years ago.
