I wish I could control when, how or what time of day my mind is going to have its best ideas, but ideas don’t care about time. For example, I’ve been known to change the title of a program right before publication of the program and then, everyone at the Institute from education to marketing and sales to accounting has to scramble to change every associated ANCC accreditation document, online platform content, postcard, catalog description, email campaign, advertisement, invoice, website and you get the picture.
Every day I hear from RNs who say “I waited XX years to finally take the CLNC® Certification Program. I should have done it sooner.” Waiting patiently for what we want is not a strategy for achieving it. That’s why I love the quote “Life wasn’t too short: it was too long to waste unduly on non-love, non-laughter and non-decisions.”

Reflecting on the events of 9/11 and the days following the horrific events, there were a fair share of pessimists who thought the world was over. Thank goodness there were more optimists than pessimists and America came out the other side changed in a positive way.
We humans like to think we embrace change, but if you’re alert to what’s been happening in the world recently, you might agree that the COVID-19 pandemic is proof that most of us expend more energy resisting change than accomplishing something productive through it.
Nothing reduces stress more than a great vacation – at least once you get over the stress of traveling. Getting off the grid is never easy. Traditionally, no matter how busy I am, I make it my goal at least once a year to get far away, into something so different that it forces me out of my regular stress-relief routine into one that entirely disconnects me from my legal nurse consulting business and life’s routine challenges.
Thanks to the COVID-19 global pandemic, I’m really missing travel to the remarkable, unique and remote parts of the world – actually travel to any part of the world. Thank goodness I have my screensaver photos, which serve as constant reminders of the incredible places I’ve been blessed to visit. Yesterday a photo of one of my favorite places came up, the Taktsang Palphug Monastery (also known as the “Tiger’s Nest”) in Bhutan.
Like many of you, my social calendar has slowed down to a crawl as I navigate the new spikes in the COVID-19 pandemic. While that translates to more free time to relax, you might think a cup of healthy green tea first thing in the morning is not that essential, yet for me, it’s more vital than ever.
The COVID-19 pandemic illustrates how perception is often disguised as fact. We’re all experiencing the same exact virus, yet are quite divided on the so-called facts of the virus. Go out or stay home. Wear a mask or don’t wear a mask. Socialize with friends and family or don’t socialize. Eat in a restaurant or prepare meals at home.
All of us will come out of the COVID-19 pandemic with beaucoup stories of various and sundry subjects and equally varying quality. Some will be funny, some tragic, some inspirational and some profound. All stories are welcome – after all, variety is the stuff life is made of.
