In my 41 years of business experience, I’ve learned that I don’t need to take a majority vote on every issue. I don’t always go with the herd and can comfortably make decisions that are contrary to what the majority thinks. But I’ve also learned that I care more about being successful than being right.

I’ve eaten just about every variety of food in restaurants around the world. I’ve dined from the humble carts of street vendors in Saigon and in ultra-modern Michelin-starred restaurants in Paris, but I keep returning to one chef’s place every chance I get. The food is exquisite, tasty and such a sensory experience that I have devoured every dish he has ever put in front of me. This guy is a perfectionist not only about the food but also the plates on which each course is presented. Here’s one of his creations – a one-bite crab salad – served on a series of Rosenthal china plates that the chef himself commissioned.
People often ask me: “Vickie, of the places you’ve been, what is your all-time favorite trip?” I’m not a fan of this question because every trip is a favorite in its own way. My response has been the same for years: “If I can only pick one, it would have to be Nepal.” Nepal was my first expedition, so I felt daring, rugged and adventurous. I also fell in love with the incredible contrasts there.

My most Memorable CLNC® Case involved a 35-year-old female who was 3 days postpartum following a delivery due to eclampsia. The patient presented to the emergency department (ED) one hour after being discharged from the OB unit for shortness of breath and hypertension.

When I became a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant in 2007, it was one of the first career moves that I researched before I took the plunge into the wild world of legal nurse consulting.
I was speaking with a woman who wanted to start her own business. While Jean and I were talking I realized I couldn’t determine what was driving her, so being the direct person I am, I went straight for the jugular and asked her, “Why do you want to start a business?” She was equally blunt in her answer telling me, “I want money to buy nice things, a nice car, nice clothes and a nice house.” I believe in payoff, but this type of drive for starting one’s own business is, in my opinion, hardly a mission statement.
Like any other Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, whether you’re working at home with family around you, in an office with other CLNC® consultants and attorneys around or camped out in a Starbucks with your laptop, I can guarantee you’ll be interrupted.
