This past year many of you have shared that you’re officially wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope that you’re not so defeated that you’re now having to resort to “Dry January.”
Whether you feel a little (or a lot) out of control, it’s time to reclaim your life energy in the same systematic way you plan your career and legal nurse consulting business. Here are 3 ways to reclaim your life energy:
- Renew your physical energy. Eat more whole foods than processed ones, exercise daily and sleep 7-8 hours. Research studies support that people who are physically healthy will come out the other end of a COVID-19 infection a lot better than those who aren’t. No surprises there. The real surprise is that the body really doesn’t demand too much of you to stay healthy.
- Don’t say Yes by default. If you find yourself saying Yes to people who drain you, causes you don’t fully believe in and taking on responsibilities someone else can handle, it’s time to say No. When a successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultant tells me she still cleans her own house, I advise that it’s time to reclaim the word No. No is the most powerful word in the dictionary. Life’s energy requires space to flourish. While cleaning a toilet can sometimes be a welcome distraction from writing that report for your attorney-client, it’s important to only say Yes to people, tasks and responsibilities with consciousness.
- Manage yourself. The COVID-19 pandemic has proven once and for all that control of any sort is a delusion. The pandemic also demonstrates how well-intentioned people can exhaust their life energy when attempting to manage everyone but themselves. The quickest path to reclaiming your life energy is to manage yourself. I always joke that CEO means “controlled entirely by others.” It took me decades to recognize that I don’t manage clients or vendors. And with the pandemic I’m adding my friends’ and family members’ distorted political views to that list. 😊 All we can ever hope to manage is ourselves. I notice my life energy is must more vibrant when I live this strategy for renewal.
Where you focus is where you yield results. Focus on renewing your life energy by committing to healthy living, saying No more often and managing yourself.
