The next time you get your feelings hurt because an attorney called you on a mistake or the quality of your work product, instead of brooding, I suggest you invoke my Thought for Success “It’s not personal, it’s business.”
Attorneys tell it like it is and I actually like that about them. Successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know they can’t afford to be sensitive about feedback and/or criticism. Have you ever noticed that the people most sensitive to criticism are usually the very people who need it the most?
To be fair, criticism can sometimes be personal (think in-laws), but attorneys aren’t family. In the business world we have to keep our professional distance. If the criticism is legitimate take the lesson and learn from it.
If you want to succeed as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (and even in life), the next time an attorney-client criticizes you, buck up, take it like a woman (or man) and remember, it’s not personal, it’s business.
Success Is Yours,
Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD
P.S. Comment and share how you deal with criticism and make the distinction between personal and business feedback.
Attorney criticism has helped me to produce better work products. I value my clients opinions and needs.
