I love using keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft® Word. My only problem is that there are too many of them to keep track of. Savvy Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know that the ones I give out in my Tech Tips are the most useful.
I just got off a mentoring call with a CLNC® consultant who wants to do more legal nurse consultant jobs for an attorney-client she’s only worked on a couple of cases for. I asked what was holding her back and she replied “I don’t like to ask for business.” I wish this CLNC consultant was alone in this attitude, but I know she’s not. Right?
Our thoughts are powerful and intimate companions. As Norman Vincent Peale says “Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
I was asked to review a case involving a nurse practitioner (NP). I gladly accepted the case as I am a family nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist. Cases involving advanced practice nurses (APNs) are my specialty as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant.
I recently dealt with a difficult business challenge and while doing so, I allowed my mind to go into all of the wrong places. This compounded the difficulty of the challenge and made it appear more daunting than it turned out to be.
Vickie and I are lucky. At the office we have Internet connection speeds that would make the Pentagon jealous. Email is delivered before we send it and web pages miraculously appear at the click of a mouse. At home though, things are a little different. Our Internet connectivity is more “real world” and we actually have to wait almost a second or two for a document to download. It’s not disturbing but we do notice a difference.
I recently mentored a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who is subcontracting with one of the most successful CLNC® consultants in the industry. She shared that she is frustrated because she wants to grow her own business, not someone else’s.
The 14th Dalai Lama wisely states “It seems that often when problems arise, our outlook becomes narrow.” This is exactly why we should be seeking viewpoints other than our own when encountering a challenging legal nurse consulting problem.
Most RNs think they have no choice in whether they get a pay raise or not. That’s simply not true. You have more control over a pay raise than you think. Just don’t expect it to come from the hospital where you work.
Having to be cool can get in the way of success. I’ve never been that cool, but I have been successful. That’s why I believe there’s nothing cool about having to be cool.
