9 Tools Certified Legal Nurse Consultants Can’t Live Without in Their Home Offices

I asked the CLNC® Pros to share some of the home office tools they can’t live without. All Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know the importance of a computer and the software programs to support your CLNC business. Take a moment, check your home office inventory against this additional list of must-have tools.

  1. CLNC Certification Certificate and CLNC Photos: “Even though I became a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant 14 years ago, I find myself glancing at my framed CLNC Certification certificate and smiling at just how far I have come since 2000. I have been trained by the best. The photos are also a delight and remind me of the road traveled and the friends I’ve met since becoming a CLNC consultant.”
  2. – Lawrence H. Frace, RN, CLNC

  3. File Cabinets: “Despite this being the age of paperless documents, you will accumulate paper and when you do, you’ll want to get it off your desk and out of your sight with several large file cabinets.”
  4. – Mildred Mannion, RN, BSN, CNOR, CLNC

  5. NACLNC® Conference Photos: “My office would not be complete without photos of me enjoying my CLNC friends at the NACLNC Conferences. They remind me of the great times I have had and all the productive networking I have done. The photos always put a smile on my face!”
  6. – Mildred Mannion, RN, BSN, CNOR, CLNC

  7. Office Chair: “I have changed my chair several times while searching for the right height and comfort that I need. The ultimate office chair is directly related to so many things including hand placement, neck position and back posture. So spend a little extra time on selecting the right chair. It’s worth it.”
  8. – Mildred Mannion, RN, BSN, CNOR, CLNC

  9. Postage Meter: “Going to the post office is time consuming. When I have to mail a package or envelopes to an attorney-client I weigh the item on a postage meter and print postage right from my computer. This is a big time saver and it’s convenient to track the postage expenses for my CLNC business.”
  10. – Dale Barnes, RN, MSN, PHN, CLNC

  11. Recording System: “Recorded messages to attorney-prospects are my main marketing strategy for my CLNC business. I compose a variety of messages – from a description of the Certified Legal Nurse Consultant services I provide to essential nursing information –just enough to whet the appetite of the attorney.”
  12. – Lawrence H. Frace, RN, CLNC

  13. Scanner: “I never realized how much I would use a scanner. I frequently need to send information in pdf format, and it is a snap to do so with a scanner.”
  14. – Dale Barnes, RN, MSN, PHN, CLNC

  15. Shredder: “I use my shredder on a daily basis. Of course if I have huge boxes of medical records to shred I go to an outside shredding company, but for day-to-day use, I shred anything with personal information on it as well as smaller piles of medical records that the attorneys want destroyed. It’s easy and convenient.”
  16. – Dale Barnes, RN, MSN, PHN, CLNC

  17. Stereo System: “Sometimes when I become frustrated (hardly ever) or more likely tired, I like to crank up my stereo system, close my eyes for a few minutes and sip my coffee. Just a few minutes will do the trick and it’s back to work I go.”
  18. – Lawrence H. Frace, RN, CLNC

  1. Hello, this is in regard to the recorded messages. Do you put this on your website, or how are you using the messages? Thanks

  2. I have just finished setting up my desk for my office and I looked at this blog posting and I have everything recommended except for the stereo system. For that I turn on the television to the music channels or crank up the iPhone with my downloaded play lists! I am so excited to get started, just need to take the CLNC® Certification Exam and wait for the marketing materials I ordered to arrive!!!

  3. Some years ago I recorded an informational type audio cd complete with background music (yes I purchased the music rights) that educated attorneys on the services I provide. I put that cd into a standard cd jacket and the jacket contains printed info on my company (my company’s story and its mission statement). The entire cd package costs me about $1.50 each in materials to put together.
