The cache on your web browser is where the copies of pages from the various legal nurse consulting-related websites you’ve visited are stored. Each time you visit a website the browser is supposed to pull up the “cached” site while downloading the “new” site. This is to speed up your browser’s apparent performance. All browsers have a default setting that limits the size or amount of memory of this cache. And the more you surf the web or do research for your legal nurse consulting business, the more pages are stored in it. Consequently, the more incrementally slower it may become to load a page (as it looks for the old copy).
Even worse, sometimes a page you’re revisiting won’t display correctly, a plug-in won’t work or you may not be able to view a video or download a document. That’s because your browser can occasionally get clogged up. When that happens it may not display the “new” page or all the data that underlies that page. If hitting the “reload” or “refresh” button doesn’t display the page correctly, it may be time to clear your cache. Even the National Library of Medicine recommends, and I quote verbatim: “Clearing the cache on your web browser may improve your web page downloading time and the performance of web-based databases, such as NLM’s LocatorPlus and PubMed.”
So, my CLNC® amigos, if I tell you to clear your cache and the NLM tells you to clear your cache – what should any smart Certified Legal Nurse Consultant do? That’s right, clear your cache! Rather than explain how to do it myself, I’ll just fall back on extensive research done by the Trustees of Indiana University. Here are their directions on how to clear out the caches in various and sundry browsers.
Take a tip from me though – don’t clean out your cookies. You’ll need them for sites to display correctly and track your visits. Only clear your cache.
Keep on techin’,
Tom
