How’s That Working For You?

I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that most of us will get to work until age 70 and some of us even longer. The bad news is that most of us will have to work until age 70 and some of us even longer. Whether we consider this fact to be good news or bad news, many of us spend way too much of our life resisting work while we’re actually having to work. The way I see it, we have two choices: stop complaining about work and get to work, or create a nursing career you won’t complain about.

Because I’ve never viewed complaining as a smart or productive choice, I knew I didn’t want to become like so many nurses who opted for choice #3, which is to work and complain all the way through it. Yet, thirty years ago I recognized that I just might get swept along and become one of those complaining nurses if I didn’t take control of my nursing career. Not one to be a victim, I took control, stepped out and started my legal nurse consulting business.

If you’re not happy with your work, do something about it other than complain. Becoming a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant may not be for you – I don’t think it’s for everyone. But there’s a whole world out there that’s richer and brighter than the world of complaining. It’s your life and you get to choose. But the next time you observe yourself complaining, the one question I have is “How’s that working for you?” If it’s not, then it’s time to stop complaining about work and get to work on you and your next career adventure.

I’m just sayin’,

P.S. Comment and share what you do to interrupt the complaining cycle.

  1. I absolutely agree with you! It is very easy to fall in the trap of complaining without even realizing it.

Two years ago I was in my office “complaining” after reading a not so pleasant email from my boss. My DNS came in and I gave her an earful at the same time waving the Vickie Milazzo catalog I had taken out of my bag. “This is why I really should go take this course,” I said. “I’ve been putting it off for over 10 years!” My DNS looked at me and said, “why don’t you?”

The rest of this story is the start of my own CLNC® business with my DNS as partner and completion of over 150 cases!!!

Quit complaining and take the necessary steps that WILL change your life. I did it and so can you:)
