Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: The Best Christmas Gift Ever for Myself and Hopefully for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

Christmas was just three days ago (it’s hard to believe that there’s only 362 shopping days until the next one) and many of you are probably still digging out from under mountains of discarded wrapping paper, cardboard boxes and all the various flotsam and jetsam leftovers after Christmas. Vickie and I have moved toward simplicity — with music and books being our primary gifts to each other.

Thinking back though, I remembered the best Christmas gift I ever received and the funny thing is, it wasn’t really a Christmas gift. It was the gift of literacy (I think health is my second favorite). Why is literacy my favorite gift? Because reading gives me the opportunity to have adventures in space, go back in time, see dinosaurs, kings, queens, be a detective and explore new lands, foreign countries, the past and also the future. I’ve traveled to worlds that I could never have imagined (but am glad someone else did). I love reading fiction, non-fiction, business, educational (technology of course!) and even the occasional self-help book to keep my brain from turning to mush. Reading also enabled me to graduate from both engineering and law schools. I wouldn’t be here today without the ability to read; instead, I’d probably be digging a ditch somewhere.

Every Christmas when I receive a book, my first reflection is on the best gift I ever received, and I mentally thank my parents and all those extremely patient teachers for it. Take a moment today and ask yourself, what is the best gift you ever received? I sure hope it was literacy or health.

Keep on techin’,

Tom

P.S. Comment and share the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received, whatever it was.

P.P.S. The best thing about this gift is that you can pass it on to your children.

  1. At the age of 10, my heart’s desire was to receive a Chatty Cathy doll. After being told over and over again that I was “too old for dolls,” I was ecstatic to receive that specific doll on Christmas morning. For Christmas a few years ago, I received the same Chatty Cathy doll once again. However, this time Cathy was wearing a hand crocheted dress made by my mother who was in her 80s then. Both of these “Chatty Cathy Christmases” are extremely special memories.

The fact that both of my parents are almost ninety years old and still live on their own in the same house where I grew up is an ongoing blessing to me.

  2. My best gift ever was at the age of 9 when I requested a rocking chair for Christmas. We usually got 1 special present and my parents tried to give us what we asked for within limits. I was shocked when I got an adult full size rocking chair with my initials on it in gold lettering. The rocking chair has rocked all 4 of my nephews and my niece when they were babies, and the chair is still just as beautiful today. It reminds me of how strong and good the love of good parents can be.

  3. The best gift I ever received was the realization that I am connected to a Higher Source. One day I realized that I could connect with a Higher Power for the Good in the Universe. I also realized that this awareness did not come from me. Sometimes I do things that are wise and logical. Other times I do things that are neither. Another gift that I received was the gift of Vickie Milazzo and her Institute. She is connected to that Source and Power. Otherwise, many of us would still be stuck in worlds that were very bad for us. I just received a third gift: I can use my voice recognition software to type on Vickie’s webpage for me.

  4. I do believe Literacy is the best gift ever. For Christmas my husband gave me an E-Reader, Nook, from Barnes and Noble. It is great because you can literally take 100’s of books with you wherever you go. I also gave the rest of my children there own Nook’s and even my 5 year old grand-daughter the V-Reader for her age group.
