Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Create Your Own Custom Screen Saver for Your Legal Nurse Consulting Computer

Every morning, my first thought after I wake up, just like every other husband in America, is “How can I make my wife happy today?” Some days it’s easy. Other days, let’s just say it’s easier.

Today I made my wife very happy (double husband points). “How?” you might ask, so that you can tell your spouse to read this Tech Tip. Easy – I turned her office computer into an electronic picture frame showing all her favorite photos. Vick runs Windows® 7 so it was simple – here’s how.

  • First consolidate all the family, vacation or other fun photos you want to include into a Directory or File Folder called Slide Show – or alternatively leave them in their current directory(ies).
  • Return to the Windows Desktop.
  • Next, right click anywhere on the Desktop and click Personalize
  • Look for a Screen Saver icon and click it.
  • Click the drop-down bar under the words Screen Saver and select Photos
  • Click the box to the right of Settings and then the Browse button to navigate to the folder with the photos you want to use.
  • You can adjust transition speed and check the box next to Shuffle Photos.
  • Then click Save and then OK and close any open windows.

Now, anytime Vickie turns away from her computer it automatically goes into slide show mode and starts randomly showing photos of vacations, friends, family and past NACLNC® Conferences. All I can say is, “Wow!”

If you are running Windows® XP, give these instructions to your spouse instead:

  • Consolidate all the photos you want to include into a Directory or File Folder called Slide Show – or alternatively leave them in their current directory(ies).
  • Return to the Windows Desktop.
  • Next, right click anywhere on the Desktop and click Properties
  • Click the Screen Saver tab
  • Click the drop down bar and then My Pictures Slideshow
  • Next click Settings
  • Now navigate to the Directory or file folder in which you’ve stashed your photos. You can leave it at a top level directory such as My Pictures or to any particular custom directory as above.
  • Now set your times, transitions and OK your way out!

Double and triple husband points all around!

Keep on techin’,

Tom
