Stepping outside my usual comfort zone is something that I have been doing a lot since I have been a CLNC® consultant. I had the opportunity to attend a conference this summer about writing children's books. It was suggested by the facilitator of the writer's group that I attend. She said that I would learn skills that could enhance my marketing materials. One of the components of the conference featured poetry. We read poetry aloud and participated in an exercise focusing on Haiku. Not only was this fun, but I gained an appreciation for other writing styles and came away with some ideas to enhance my marketing mailers.

Ah! I can't say enough about the joys of reading! I even listen to books on CD while I commute. Of course, some of the time, I am listening to the CDs from previous NACLNC® Conferences!

I finished The Shack a couple months ago and felt profoundly affected by its message(s). I have also read (listened to) The Fountainhead and The Count of Monte Cristo, two favorites that warrented repeated reading. I also enjoyed The Lost Symbol, the typical Dan Brown scavenger hunt/mystery/history/art lesson.

Reading not only transports me to places and times that are unfamiliar, but expands my vocabulary, feeds my soul and adds different perspectives to my own views. All these make for a better Certified Legal Nurse Consultant.

This article hit a cord with me as reading is my #1 source of relaxation, especially after a difficult day. Putting myself in another realm opens my mind and lets the stress I've experienced diffuse, not unlike letting the air in a balloon out. Currently, I am reading two books: 1)Glenn Beck's Common Sense and 2) The Governor by Rod Blagojevich and make an attempt at reading all view points even when I think I already have my mind made up as this reminds me to keep my mind open and let new ideas filter in. Reading diverse views can only help my practice as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. Yes, I do like light reading too.
