Promise 3: I Will Take One Action Step a Day Toward Launching or Growing My CLNC® Business

When I decided to start my own business as a legal nurse consultant in 1982 I had a full time nursing job at the hospital, plus I was having to work a part-time job to pay my mortgage. How could I possibly realize my dream of starting a business? Through Promise 3. No matter how tired I was at the end of the day I would take at least one action step a day toward my legal nurse consulting business.

Let’s face it, dreams and visions are great, but without action they are nothing more than hallucinations. Without action, visions scud away and dissolve like clouds. While my belief in pioneering this new profession never wavered my belief alone wasn’t enough. I needed to take action every day.

When a national news anchor from CNN asked me how I got to where I am today in light of my humble beginnings, I was hoping to say something profound. But the truth was I did it one step at a time.

Like anyone trying to accomplish any whopping big goal, I had to tackle it in small workable chunks – talk to that first attorney, get my first medical-related case and build my first attorney-client relationship.

I lacked business savvy, but with each small step I gained both knowledge and momentum. Sometimes I barreled through with enthusiasm, other times I barely had the energy to inch forward, but the accumulated effect of all those steps brought me to where I am today. What I learned in the process and what still applies today is that it is less important what I do and more important that I do something.

Successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants love the action as much as the dream. By taking action every day you develop the habit and discipline to make your vision a reality. When you focus not just on the idea but on making it happen, you stay in motion, not just dreaming your passions but living them.

Make this third promise now, that you will take at least one action step every day for the next 30 days on the big thing that will bring you closer to launching or growing your CLNC® business. Once you are hooked on the natural high of action, taking giant leaps comes easy.

Success Is Inside!

P.S. Comment and share the action step you will make today to launch or grow your CLNC® business.

  1. I think this is the most important promise. If you don’t do one thing daily your business will never develop. Of course, it’s awesome to say that I am a CLNC® consultant, but without my business, it’s just another acronym. When you take action steps you BECOME a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant.

We all know that things don’t just happen in nursing. If you don’t develop a plan of care and take action there will be a bad outcome. The same is true in your business. If you don’t develop a business plan and take action to form, develop & grow your business there will be a bad outcome…the loss of your dream.

  2. I believe this is true in all aspects of our lives. It is the simple small things that you do everyday of your life that will have the biggest impact. For example eating healthy, exercise and proper balance of work and play.

I am really just at the beginning of my CLNC® career. Still only the student, I listen to those tapes everyday. At work on my lunch break, while doing mindless house chores or on long rides in the car. Each tape is a step closer to starting my business.

Vickie has offered me an opportunity to do something exciting. Yes, it will be difficult and seem at times, daunting. But each action step brings me closer to something really great! Success!

  3. *Today I will formulate my marketing plan.
    *I will list my ideas.
*I will send my marketing plan, and list of steps I have taken to the Institute
    for feedback and mentoring.

I need to share my ideas with someone. I have some ideas, big and small.

  4. Today I will finish my subcontracting application for a CLNC® consulting firm who previously contacted me. For those just starting out, I am amazed at the progress of my business when I work on it every day. Although I still struggle with the marketing, the work is out there. You just have to go and find it!

  5. Hi Tammy,

It will be difficult at times but I will follow the Promises and take one action step daily. Thank you Vickie for providing such an awesome program for us RNs to be able to sore like eagles and provide services that are above and beyond the normal nursing career. Jeffery S. Stone R.N.

  7. Thank you Vickie for the encouraging powerful lessons. I do not have a business degree or BSN but I have given myself credit for holding a full time job in a busy Level IV facility and being able to manage my rental properties. I am glad I completed your CLNC® Certification Program unsure of my future due to having a defibrillator implanted. I realize that the sky has no limit! I will keep moving forward one step at a time.

  8. Today I passed the CLNC® Certification Exam. Right before the exam I watched the Test-Taking Tips video again. To pass the exam was my goal. Now I have a new goal: Start developing my CLNC® business, even if I am scared to get my first case. I know it is contradicting, but very true. Thank you LegalNurse.com for all the knowledge you share with us.

    Inna.
