I enjoy reading these posts because they are thought provoking. I had to stop and think. Is talent overrated? Is that really how I feel?

Some extremely talented CLNC® consultants are out there, but some don't seem to progress but rather disappear. While others with less talent zoom past on the achievement ladder.

I had a science teacher tell me once that if you really wanted a lesson in life, you should take it from the cockroach. (Cockroach? Ewwww) Yes. The cockroach. Seems this insect has managed to live a very long time. Why? Because he has adapted to change. He has managed to live through the earth's constant changing high temperatures, very low temperatures, and he eats anything and needs very little oxygen or water if at all. According to that science teacher "adaption is the key to survival." It's remembering him lecture about the cockroach, adaption and survival that right at this point I thought of you. (No offense intended about the cockroach).

Your words "The reason I’ve survived 27 years of competitors poorly copying and imitating my every move" hit my brainwaves with a jolt. Vickie, I'm probably not the first to tell you this but, you are a survivor. You have adapted and changed and you have survived the longest because of this. You are not the same as you used to be though you have always been on the "cutting edge."

I might fall short in the talented category, but I am a survivor too. We adapt to change. In fact, I think people who stay around the longest may even enjoy change where others do not. I'll have to read the book on "Why Talent Is Overrated" because I've always considered it a talent to survive, live and do what pleases you....so many do not. Their work will always be a poor imitation if you are always changing. They can apply what you teach, they can repeat what you have said but they really can't imitate you. Because your work is dynamic and changing, you will always be different from them. I think your students see that in you. It's part and parcel of being a CLNC® consultant.

I love this article. So true! Those of us, and I consider myself one of them, have to remain focused, determined and persistent (like President Obama used this word yesterday) to be successful!

Thank you so much for this article. It is a reminder of what success looks like and how it can be achieved!
