Although I was not able to attend this year's NACLNC® Conference, I took the challenge to go and watch Slumdog Millionaire. I dragged my very reluctant husband who proclaimed at the end of the movie that it was one of the best he had ever seen. I agree. And the message and inspiration are coming at such a great time for us as we work hard to lay a solid foundation for our new business. I want to be like Jamal and Vickie - to never give up. And to find ways to challenge myself to be the best CLNC® consultant I can be. Thanks, Vickie, for this challenge. And keep 'em coming!

My schedule was packed tight in between the time when the assignment to watch Slumdog Millionaire was given and the NACLNC® Conference in San Antonio. So, I planned to arrive in San Antonio the day before the VIP reception to complete my homework assignment.

The entrepreneurial lesson that I learned from the movie came from Jamal and his devotion to Latika, the third Musketeer. Initially, his devotion was that of a friend. He stayed on the high road in every challenge that he came across. On the other hand, his brother chose the low road. When his brother stole Latika from him, they no longer shared the same motives and went separate ways.

In my entrepreneurial journey, I identify with Jamal. I want to take the high road and have fun along the way. I want to do what it takes to get the maximum benefit that I can get. I want that same ingenuity, creativity, resourcefulness and raw courage that Jamal used to survive, to make my legal nurse consulting business succeed. I want to have endurance so that when intimidating attorneys, territorial legal staff, cold gatekeepers or head-wagging naysayers challenge me, I can respond with confidence, determination and assurance of my goals and direction in life. I want to be myself while striving for what I want and not settle for less. For Jamal, this was getting the girl in the end. For me, this is making my legal nurse consulting business profitable.

The high road is the path that Vickie has forged for us as CLNC® consultants. To follow the Core and other resources provided is to do what it takes. To be a kindred spirit with Jamal is to share in the tremendous journey that Vickie so desperately wants to take us on.

I looked over at my husband after Jamal and Latika were in each other’s arms. My husband said, "Is it over yet?" I was glad that he did not abandon me in the movie theatre. I said to myself, "No, it is not over. I still have a lot to accomplish." So, I did my homework. I thank you Vickie for the suggestion to view Slumdog Millionaire with entrepreneurial eyes.
