If You Want It, Go Out and Get It
by Barbara Boyle, RN, CLNC

Vickie, thank you so much for speaking out with passion for our professional
evolution. I also thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting all of "you" into
your course.
I resigned from my clinical position on January 13. It was time for me to go
to the next level of professional practice. I was deeply committed to succeeding
in my next adventure. I ordered your CLNC® Certification Program the next
day and finished it on February 4. I consulted on my first case for a listserv
member as a freebie to test my legal nurse consultant skills on February 10 and took the certification
exam on February 24.
On February 25, on a hunch, I called the local DA's office about an arrest
I'd seen in the paper. I consulted with her on the phone and gave her a
three-page "what to do next" note, again for free just to get exposure.
She was so impressed, she asked for my resume and fee schedule. I called because
you repeatedly said, "Go out and get the business; make the call."
I started calling the attorneys I had sent my introduction letter to and got
my first paying case from one of them on March 17. Again, I called because you
were there in my mind saying, "Nobody but you is responsible for your success.
If you want it, go out and get it."
It is a credit to you as a mentor and motivator that I pursue this new dimension
of nursing. Thank you so much for helping to make it possible and for keeping
the light burning strong and hot. I wanted you to know what a difference you
have made for me as a person and as a committed RN.
