Vickie’s Favorite Quotes: Joe Girard

Yesterday I mentored a successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, Gloria, who is gearing up to retire. She doesn’t want to discontinue her business, she just wants her CLNC® subcontractors to do all the work.

Vickie Milazzo’s Favorite Joe Girard Quote

Great idea but there’s just one simple problem: Businesses, at least successful ones, don’t manage themselves. I’ve owned my legal nurse consulting business for 33 years and I’m still a working CEO.

So how can Gloria get what she wants? I advised her to hire a strong CLNC manager who will supervise her CLNC subcontractors. I also advised that she’s probably not going to be able to sit back and relax quite yet. She still needs to put some skin into the legal nurse consulting game. She’ll have to invest time training the new manager on how to work with the CLNC subcontractors, how to communicate with the attorney-clients and how to be accountable to her as the owner. Rare is the person who can walk into your CLNC business and be immediately effective, much less make an immediate difference. In fact, when you find that person let me know so that I can hire her away from you. LOL!

Whether you’re just starting your legal nurse consulting business, or staging for retirement, Joe Girard was right. The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs one step at a time. That’s what every successful business owner knows for sure.

Success Is Yours!

P.S. Comment here and share the steps you’re taking today for your legal nurse consulting success.

  1. One step at a time is a great analogy in the building blocks of a successful CLNC® business as well as life’s journey. I am happy to say, I posted my most successful year in business thus far. The success is from consistently attaining a goal with each step and soaring to new heights – a strong belief in myself and my work product helps as well. Vickie, thank you for sharing.

  2. I congratulate Gloria on being this successful, and I admire your response, Vickie, to her need to retire and yet keep the business on a successful track. If no one is running the train, it just might derail quickly. I would be very nervous to leave subcontractors to keep the business up for me. Subcontractors are valuable resources for a CLNC® consulting business, taking some time off your hands.
I get a lot of learning exercise using the stairs!
