CLNC® Success Story: Certified Legal Nurse Consultant Left Her RN Job at the Hospital and Gave Herself a Raise!

Certified Legal Nurse Consultant Karla Olson, RN, MSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, CBC, CLNC shares how she was working extra hours in her RN hospital job reviewing cases as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. One day after working to exonerate a nurse in a lawsuit, Karla decided it was time to quit working 60 hours a week at the hospital while being paid for only 36. She left her RN job and got serious about creating her full-time legal nurse consulting business.

One of Karla’s first cases came from an attorney who located her in the NACLNC® Directory and she continues to get cases from the Directory both from attorneys and other Certified Legal Nurse Consultants who need her nursing specialty. Today, as a full-time legal nurse consultant, Karla is actively seeking CLNC subcontractors to help with her case load.

Karla credits the quality of the educational materials and resources from LegalNurse.com for her legal nurse consulting success. When she got her first case she went back to the Core Curriculum for Legal Nurse Consulting® textbook to review her work and ensure she did everything right.

The highest compliment she continues to receive from attorneys is, “Karla, you’re the only person I don’t have to double-check because you are so thorough in what you do.”

Congratulations Karla!

P.S. Comment here to congratulate Karla on her CLNC success and share your nursing specialty with your CLNC peers who are looking for subcontractors.

  1. Congrats!!! This is so exciting to hear since I have just started my CLNC® business and I want to make the plunge to do it full time but I’m still a little reserved. I can do some subcontracting if you are in need. My experience is very broad: trauma ICU, SCI, CHI, ortho, L&D, RR, home health and hospice, management, PI/QI, education, insurance case management. Please reach out to me if you need subcontractors! 304-533-8956. Michelle Edwards, RN, CLNC.

  2. Congrats, Carla. I am an expert in dental malpractice, since I have been a dental hygienist since 1979 and still working 2 days in that field. So if you ever have any dental cases, I can assist in that area.
    Best, Sunie
