Vickie’s Favorite Quotes: Thomas Ziemba

At the risk of sounding somewhat less than visionary, the future is the so-called “Internet of things.” More and more of the devices that support us in our daily life are becoming connected to the Internet or connected to our smartphones and then de facto connected to the Internet.

Our options are endless: Remotely-controlled thermostats, video-enabled door bells, automobiles with embedded hotspots, email on our watches and exercise bracelets that track how many steps we take in a day and how many calories we burn while doing so. I certainly don’t want to live without technology, but I often find that it tests me in so many ways.

Vickie’s Favorite Quotes: Thomas Ziemba

Our children and grandchildren are digital natives, growing up in a world where technology is simply an extension of their selves. The rest of us are digital adopters, living in a world where technology is rapidly changing how we do business and how we interact with the world around us.

When I am being tested by technology (which happens frequently), I remind myself that technology is not my life, it’s simply a tool to enrich it. As my favorite technology guru says, “It’s okay if technology tests me, but it’s not okay for it to best me.

I’m Just Sayin’

P.S. Comment and share how you ensure technology never “bests” you.

  1. Years ago, I was tearing my hair out trying to get the hang of online classes. At the time, I was completely computer illiterate. I stuck with it and adopted Tom’s attitude without it besting me and made it through the BSN and MSN online with lots of tech help. Thank goodness for intelligent people like Tom Ziemba!

  2. I shut it off and turn it back on. If that doesn’t work, I shut it off and walk away for a while. If that doesn’t work, I dig in and stick with it. But that usually means a late night. Sometimes I have to save that for another day.
