What Certified Legal Nurse Consultants Can Learn from Cirque du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil is my all-time favorite entertainment group. I try to see every show they do and fortunately my travel schedule often affords me the opportunity to do so. Over the weekend I was excited to enter the familiar blue and yellow-striped tents to see their new show Amaluna right here in Houston.

The Cirque performers have bodies that create astonishing movements. They’re freaks of nature, willing to attempt movements none of us would ever imagine, much less dare try.

When I shared this thought with Tom, he laughed and said, “Vickie, you’re a freak of nature in your own right. Like Cirque performers you make what you do look easy. Other legal nurse consultants would break their necks trying to do just half of what you do before breakfast.” I laughed and appreciated that Tom’s my biggest fan. But he’s onto something. If you want to be successful as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant you don’t have to be a freak of nature, but you do have to be willing to do what the masses aren’t willing to do.

As an example, a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant was whining and complaining to me about how he (and he was a big bruiser) didn’t know how he could possibly do what was needed to launch his legal nurse consulting business plus work his full time RN job at the hospital. I laughed and said, “There’s no crying in business – just get on it.” and handed him a Kleenex®.

Some people would say the Cirque performers were born that way. But I say they train themselves to stretch their boundaries day after day after day. That’s what this Certified Legal Nurse Consultant needs to do. How about you?

I’m Just Freakin’ Askin’

P.S. Comment and share what you have in common with a Cirque du Soleil performer as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant.

  1. When we work with inspired intention, it doesn’t seem like work at all. Tom is a blessing to recognize your gifts and support your goals and vision. You both are inspirational mentors and leaders for our profession. Thank you.

  2. The key is to believe, and keep believing. I’m reminded lately, as I think, and try, and press on daily to launch my CLNC® business, of the words I heard so often growing up…”can’t never could do anything.” If you use the word “can’t” you are defeated before you begin. Instead, focus. That’s what I have in common…

  3. I have networked other RNs who want to become a CLNC® consultant, but are not willing to jump through the hoops and go through the fire that many of us do.

Vickie, you plowed the road so our path is much easier with sharing your knowledge and expertise about the mix of law and nursing. As the pioneer of this nursing field, you are brilliant. Thanks for the map and guidance.
