Preparing for Your Next Attorney Interview Is Easier Than You Think!

Preparing for Your Next Attorney Interview Is Easier Than You Think!

I marvel at the way Broadway actors memorize an entire play’s worth of dialogue. But once the lines are memorized, they get to practice and perfect their stage delivery night after night. They aren’t called to think on their feet about what to say next.

For three days I’ve been memorizing lines for a TV interview, most of which will never get spoken on the TV stage. I don’t know the actual questions the TV interviewer will ask, so why bother? By memorizing what I want to say I’m actually preparing myself to think on my feet.

This same principle applies to Certified Legal Nurse Consultants with attorney interviews. I happen to think that getting inside an attorney’s office is a big deal. You’re as close to the case as you will ever be without actually holding it in your hands. An interview is not a dress rehearsal and you won’t want to mess it up.

Memorize your introduction, your USP (unique selling position), your presentation and all the possible questions and answers. Then it’s time to practice. Practice, practice and practice again. The more you know what you intend to say, the sharper you will be when called to think on your feet.

Unlike a Broadway actor, you won’t get to go back to the attorney’s stage the next night. So it’s best to get it right the first time.

  1. This could not have come at a better time. My FIRST interview is TODAY!! Thanks Vickie! 😉

  2. Vickie, that is so true! I met the attorney and he said in one 5 minute communication that my services were not needed and in the next five minutes he was asking me to find a testifying expert. I reiterated what you taught me using my USP, staying silent at times, and reiterating this is a relationship (I think this is what sold him). He has just informed me that he is also sending me the case to screen, signed a contract for locating a testifying expert inclusive of hourly rate for screening the case, all accepted and signed. If it wasn’t for your guidance, your tried and true methods, it would not have happened. This is one reason why I recommend LegalNurse.com. Thank you so much! Lynette

  3. I have done exactly what Vickie suggested here. I am new to the CLNC® business and I have had one case so far, but I walked into the attorney’s office very confident. I knew my USP and I also had memorized many of the questions attorneys ask which Vickie has in the Core Curriculum for Legal Nurse Consulting® textbook. I got the case. Thank you again, Vickie!
